Yes, dearest Abby, I knew coming home,
That now that you’re born, I must write a poem.
Your whole family rushed down, heard the
news from your Dad.
All
your Grammies and Grampies and Aunties were glad.
We camped out downstairs, waiting
nervously still,
While eating and reading to strengthen our will.
Grandpa Mike and Ms. Marcia arrived first
on that day.
He
just couldn’t wait, couldn’t sleep he did say.
Grandma Laurie played games, Ben bought a
balloon,
While
Alice read
books, we hoped you’d come soon.
Dear Auntie Dawn joked around, even fixed
my cellphone.
It
was certainly nice not to wait all alone.
You could feel how much LOVE there was
for you there,
But
we couldn’t wait longer without pulling our hair!
Finally Dad sent the word,
Abby was on her way,
When?
Where? We all cried and we started to say,
All ten fingers and toes, that’s all that
we care.
We
really don’t mind if there’s no hair!
That your Mom is alright, most
importantly so,
She
had had a hard day and there’s lots more to go.
We paced and we fumbled and clock watched
like crazy,
Laurie
and Althea planned a guard attack, I know it sounds hazy!
We sat in a trance till Aunt Dawn took
the lead.
The
receptionist gal, with her she did plead.
We’ve waited so long, Do
you have any news?
We
all want to see Abby, “Do you have any clues?”
She said sure we will help, twenty
minutes just try,
Just
wait awhile longer: we started to cry!
Laurie said it was time,
we all lurched for the door.
In
just a few minutes we hit the sixth floor.
Carrying flowers and toys and balloons in
the air,
We
stopped at the room, Mom and Dad would be there.
Dear Jason and Jaime, there proud as can
be.
But
where was dear Abby? “Where could she be?”
We kissed and we hugged your Mom and your
Dad.
We
all cried alot, though you know we weren’t sad.
The race down the hall, it was comical
still.
We
wanted to run just for the thrill.
But we stopped with a thud, as you came
into view.
There
were things to be checked and not just a few.
The beautiful girl that we saw there was
you,
Our
dreams were right there, our dreams had come true!
The LOVE for you there was so strong you
could feel,
It
didn’t need measure, you knew it was real.
We treasure you so, my dear Abby, I do!
All
Grandmas and Grandpas, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, too!
We just had to tell you, Grandpa Don and
myself,
So
you’ll always remember LOVE is worth more than WEALTH!
