I want to tell you about the adventure we had,

the day we became your Mom and Dad.

It began at one o’clock in the morning,

and it began without any warning.

I woke up your Dad to tell him, “We have to go!”

all he could say was, “Are you sure, how do you know?”

I called the Doctor, while Dad fed Snickers and Shadow,

we hated to leave them, but we had to go.

We called Grandpa Mike as soon as we knew

because that is what he wanted us to do.

We then took our bags to the car,

the hospital was kind of far.

Dad tried not to drive fast and get in trouble,

but he knew we had to get there on the double!

Someone stopped to talk in the middle of the road,

Dad flashed the car lights because we really had to go!

We finally got there safe and sound,

and parked in the first place we found.

We checked in and waited awhile,

there was nothing we could do but smile.

They finally got us in,

we were more than ready to begin.

The doctor checked Mom out,

she said, “You’re in labor, without a doubt!”

Dad got on the ball,

and started making the list of calls.

Grandma Althea had already gotten up at one,

she somehow knew she needed to get her packing done.

The next call was placed to Grandma Laurie and Grandpa Ben,

they said, “We need some more sleep, we’ll be there at ten!”

As dark gave way to light,

Abby was still nowhere in sight.

While Mom got some rest,

Dad went downstairs to greet our guests.

The nurses then told Dad to get something to eat,

because he was looking very beat.

When Dad returned the Doctor said, “We can’t wait,

we’ve got no choice we have to operate!”

Dad had to wait outside while the Doctors prepared,

he didn’t like it, it didn’t seem fair.

Mom tried not to worry,

as the Doctors worked in a flurry.

Dad finally got by Mom’s side,

their emotions they could not hide.

Abby then came out with a cry,

and Dad was the first to say hi.

Mom then declared, “She is perfect!”

and that was everyone’s verdict.

We wrote this poem about this special day,

so you would know how much we love our Abby Mae!

Love, Mommy and Daddy
